Dear Fellow Members and Friends,
Re: SAMLAW position paper on the increase of the ratio between foreign lawyers and Hong Kong solicitors in a firm from 1:1 to 1:2
In response to the consultation on the proposed amendments to the Legal Practitioners Ordinance Cap.159 and the subsidiary legislation conducted by the Law Society of Hong Kong, SAMLAW submitted a letter of support to the Law Society of Hong Kong in its proposal to tighten and increase the ratio between foreign lawyers and Hong Kong solicitors in a Hong Kong firm as well as in a registered Association between a Hong Kong firm and a foreign firm from 1:1 to 1:2 and to amend the Legal Practitioners Ordinance Cap.159 and the subsidiary legislation to the above effect (“the Proposal”). We opine that the Proposal facilitates the professional development of Hong Kong small and medium sized law firms (“SME firms”) and Hong Kong solicitors, especially young solicitors. We are pleased to enclose herewith a copy of our letter of support dated 31st December 2018 for your consideration.
We will continue to follow up the above matter closely so as to promote and enhance the common interests and the competitiveness of SME firms, articulate the views of and campaign on issues important to SME firms and legal practitioners in Hong Kong.
May we take this opportunity to thank for your support to SAMLAW. Together we create! Please do not hesitate to contact us at telephone no.5634 0238 if you require further information.
Yours faithfully,
