譚氏畢業於倫敦大學，於倫敦Gray’s Inn獲得大律師資格，並曾於香港執業。譚氏曾為中國香港特別行政區籌備委員會委員及中國香港事務顧問，現為中華人民共和國全國人民代表大會代表及香港特別行政區基本法委員會委員。譚氏亦為多個社會服務團體之委員。 

Tam was educated at London University. She qualified as a barrister-at law at Gray’s Inn, London, and practised in Hong Kong. She was a member of the Preparatory Committee for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (PRC) and Hong Kong Affairs Advisor (PRC).  She is currently a Deputy to the National People’s Congress of The People’s Republic of China and a member of the Hong Kong Basic Law Committee.  She is also a member of various community services organisations.
